"A full explanation of a theory, plan etc." is the definition of an exposition by the Oxford dictionary.
However, I feel that an exposition is a type of literary essay that tries to convey a message to the readers. In an exposition, the main purpose is to inform, explain, argue, analyse or define. Expositions focus on the main topic at hand by providing logical supporting facts, clear examples and details, and a strong explanation of these in a rather clear, logical and coherent manner. There are many kinds of expositions and these forms can be used for comparison, classification, examination of the cause and effect etc.
Expositions are very significant in our everyday lives. We see them everywhere. Even textbooks, new features, encyclopedia, press releases, newspaper articles, magazine articles and guidebooks can be considered to be a form of expostion.
